Gemu Diaphragm Valves

One of Holland’s pharmaceutical customers was using ball valves to fill small bottles. The valves would actuate 500–600 times per product run, after which they had to be disassembled and cleaned.

Each valve had more than 20 parts, and the time required to disassemble, clean, and reassemble each valve was approximately 2 hours. There were 18 heads on the filler, with one valve per head, resulting in a total cleaning time of 36 hours. Because of the extended cleaning time, the customer had to stock and maintain a complete extra set of valves.

After reviewing the process and understanding the flow path, we proposed using a Gemu Diaphragm Valve for the filling application. With only 8 screws and two diaphragms per valve, the time required to disassemble, clean, and reassemble was reduced to approximately 15 minutes per valve—resulting in a total cleaning cycle of about 5 hours instead of 36.

This improvement allowed the client to maintain only one set of valves, significantly reducing both cost and downtime.
